Magnet Air Transport

Can magnets be transported by air? The answer is yes. The premise needs to be entrusted to do degaussing specially. The so-called degaussing actually does not disappear the magnetism, but the items in the unit package are recombined to make the magnetism displayed by the unit package meet the requirements of air safety transportation stipulated by the state.

In order to prevent interference with aircraft instruments, especially compass instruments, the shipper shall pack magnetic materials in the following manner:

1. The opposite magnetic poles of instruments and devices such as magnetrons and illuminometers must be placed opposite to each other.

2. The permanent magnet material must be equipped with a magnetic armature or screened to prevent the magnetic field from causing deviation of the compass instrument. Passive decoding degaussing boards are commonly referred to as bubble wrap.

3. Each package of magnetic material must be properly marked and labeled in accordance with IATA regulations.

4. Ensure that the magnetic field strength measured at 4.6 meters (15 feet) from the surface of the package does not exceed 0.418A/m(0.00525 Gauss) before the shipment.

5. Wooden box packing is recommended for large pieces.
